We send your claim to your plan for you, so you pay only your share on the day of your visit.
Direct billing means we submit your claim to your dental plan electronically while you’re at the clinic. The plan pays us its share, and you pay the rest before you leave. You don’t have to pay the full bill and wait weeks for a cheque. You also don’t have to fill in claim forms.
Most families in Royal Oak, Rocky Ridge, Tuscany, Citadel and the rest of NW Calgary have one of three kinds of coverage: a work or private dental plan, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), or an Alberta government program for seniors, children or adults. Here’s how billing works for each.
If you have dental benefits through your job, your spouse’s job or a plan you bought, we bill the plan directly for your visit. We direct bill all private dental insurers.
Bring your plan details to your first visit: the insurer’s name, your policy or group number, and your member or certificate number. If you’re covered under a spouse’s or parent’s plan, bring the plan member’s name and date of birth too.
Every plan sets its own limits. Some pay 80% of a cleaning, some pay 100%, and most have a yearly maximum. Before larger treatment such as a crown, a root canal or dental implants, our front desk sends a predetermination to your insurer so you know what the plan will pay before you commit.
We accept the CDCP and bill Sun Life, the plan’s claims administrator, directly. The government’s guidance is that CDCP patients shouldn’t be asked to pay the full cost up front, and we don’t.
At your visit you pay:
If the CDCP covers you at 100% (the 0% co-payment level), we accept the CDCP fee as payment in full, so you pay nothing for covered care. At the 40% and 60% levels, the co-payment and fee difference above apply. We tell you those amounts before treatment.
CDCP and private dental insurance don’t mix. If you have access to a work, pension or association dental plan, you aren’t eligible for the CDCP, even if you don’t use it. Full details are on our CDCP page.
Three Alberta programs include dental coverage: Dental Assistance for Seniors (65+, low income), the Alberta Child Health Benefit and the Alberta Adult Health Benefit. Alberta Blue Cross administers them. All three can be used with the CDCP. For a service both plans cover, the claim goes to the CDCP first and the Alberta program can cover eligible costs that remain.
We bill Alberta Blue Cross directly for these programs too, and we don’t charge seniors extra. Bring your Alberta Blue Cross card along with your CDCP card.
You’re still welcome here. We’ll give you a written estimate before any treatment. Your first consultation for SureSmile aligners or braces is free. If cost is a concern, ask whether you might qualify for the CDCP. Applications are free on canada.ca.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Interac debit and cash. For larger treatment or anything your plan doesn’t cover, we offer financing, either as an in-office payment plan or through iFinance, a third-party dental financing provider. Ask our front desk which option fits your treatment.
Have your plan details ready and book online, call (587) 358-2160 or text (825) 408-3990. Booking for the whole family? We can schedule back-to-back appointments so everyone is seen in one visit. We’re at 4 Royal Vista Way NW, Suite 2160, with free parking, and open Saturdays 9 to 4. New patients can see what to expect at the first visit.
